Statistics of foreign tourism in 2019 in the city of Sanya on the island of Hainan, China and prospects for 2020

From January to November 2019, tourism data in Sanya reached double-digit growth. The number of tourists amounted to 20.8568 million, an increase of 10.03% compared with the same period last year, the total revenue from tourism amounted to 53.414 billion yuan, an increase of 13.08% at a comparable level. Among them, there were 792,500 foreign tourists, an increase of 24.67% year on year, foreign exchange revenue from tourism amounted to approximately 688 million US dollars, an increase of 32.55% year on year.


 The top ten countries and regions from which foreign tourists come to the city of Sanya include Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the USA, Singapore, Macau and Canada. Among them, the number of tourists in some countries increased rapidly from January to November, respectively: 102,000 people from Korea, an increase of 75.73%, 27,700 people from Malaysia, an increase of 84.92%, 14,300 people from Mongolia, an increase of 133.17%, 12,200 people from Vietnam, an increase of 142.83%, from Myanmar - 6,400 people, an increase of 170.29%, Canada - 70,700 people, an increase of 67.7%, from Russia - 257,200 people , an increase of 38.37%, from New Zealand - 11,100 people, an increase of 46.6%, from Spain - 12,200 people, an increase of 34.1%, from Singapore - 13,700 people, an increase up to 40.07%.


 On November 16, 2019, the international (regional) passenger flow of Sanya Phoenix International Airport in 2019 for the first time exceeded 1 million passengers, which was a historic leap that has become an important milestone in the process of internationalization of the Phoenix Airport since its opening.


 In 2020, Sanya will continue to improve the internationalization of tourism, focusing on the “five” marketing strategies, such as developing large products, promoting the media, connecting large channels, communicating on a large platform and opening new air routes.


Since 2019, Sanya has created a large marketing channel and created eight foreign tourism promotion centers in Sanya in Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, India, Russia, South Korea, Northern Europe and Taiwan.


In 2020, the city of Sanya will actively attract major media, strengthen cooperation with major domestic and foreign media platforms such as EuroNews, British Radio and Television, People's Daily and China Tourism News to increase the level of tourism promotion.
