Scientists have learned how to change the color of gold- VIDEO

In «Journal of Optics» appeared an article of a group of scientists from the University of Southampton, UK, under the leadership of former Russian scientist Nikolay Zheludev, that they were able to develop a completely new technology to change the color of non-ferrous metals, including gold. According to Nikolay Zheludev, the new technology allows to change the micro-and nanostructure of the surface of the base metal, including gold, in such a way, that the metal acquires a color, which it have not in its natural state, with no use of any impurities and dyes, such as gold can make red, blue, green or any other colors, depending of the nanostructure of the surface (see the video). Although earlier an U.S. researchers used similar technology to change the color of the metal, but the technique of Nikolay Zheludev is a more feasible. In the magazine Nano Letters was published an article of US-Korean group of engineers, that they managed to create the world's smallest laser, the size of which does not exceed the size of the virus. It is reported, that the world's smallest laser is located on a polyurethane substrate, which contains an organic dye, which serves as the working body of the laser. On the polyurethane are located, in the correct order, a golden crystals, which have a peculiar form of “3D butterfly”, the size of these resonators do not exceed a 250 nm. In an electronic library of Cornell University, published an article of the Japanese physicists, led by Atsushi Shiraki from the National College of Technology in Kisaratsu, Japan, that they managed to create the world's cheapest holographic microscope, costing only 234 U.S. dollars. As reported, the budget version of the holographic microscope is composed of parts, that are available in stores: high-power LED, webcam, solid state semiconductor lasers and free software, which include graphics library OpenCV, developed by Intel, and an open optical library CWO + + , which was established at the University of Chiba, Japan. The European Centre for Space Studies reported, that in the first time in space experiment was conducted to verify the functionality of the new protocol DTN (Disruption Tolerant Networking), in which Sunita Williams, astronaut of International Space Station (ISS), can manage from the Earth's orbit a little robot, which was made from parts of "Lego", which is located in the European Mission Control Center in Darmstadt, Germany. Thus, NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) for the first time successfully tested the transmission of information from the ISS to Earth with the help of the first interplanetary Internet - a new data transfer protocol DTN. NASA scientists are developing a technologies of using a 3D-laser printers for the production of various metal components of rocket engines for launch vehicles as part of Space Launch System (SLS). According to Ken Cooper, the engineer of the Marshall Center, in 3D-printers for the production of metal components of rocket engines using the method of selective laser melting (see the video), which allows not only to simplify the production of missiles for the needs of NASA, but also significantly reduce a costs. According to Andy Hardin, for Space Launch System (SLS) in NASA uses a 3D-printer M2 Cusing Machine, produced by the German company Concept Laser, which uses powders of stainless steel, heat resistant steel, aluminum, titanium and nickel alloys that melt of laser with power of 200W, layer by layer, forming the desired metallic form of any complexity.
