The less animal products, the better health?

When eating large amounts of animal protein, many chronic diseases develop. Even small inclusions of animal products lead to unfavorable consequences. People who eat mostly plant food were the most healthy and avoided many chronic diseases.

This thought, constantly sounding in the "Chinese study", looks very attractive, but does it correspond to reality? Given the above discrepancies, most likely, not very much. But let's check again.

We will carry out such an experiment: we choose five regions with a minimum consumption of animal protein and five regions with the maximum. Of course, reviewing data for only 10 provinces will not provide us with convincing evidence, and I do not call this sample representative. But, since the consumption of animal protein in the studied areas ranged from 0 * to almost 135 grams per day, we will still see a striking contrast between the almost vegan areas and those with much more animal food. At least, this will confirm the thesis that "even small inclusions of animal products lead to unfavorable consequences".

* The district where it turned out almost 0 was not vegan, but the annual consumption of animal products was so low that on average a day less than 0.01 grams was released.

So, I chose five almost the most vegan areas and five are maximally meat-eating. In the selection, however, I had to exclude those areas in which there was a lack of statistics on mortality.

The table contains the name of the county, the daily intake of animal protein in grams, the percentage of calories from fat, the daily intake of fiber in grams (if the latter two indicators are of interest to someone).

So that you can imagine these volumes of animal protein alive, 135 grams a day correspond to 22 medium-sized eggs, 24 grams - 4 eggs, 12 grams - 2 eggs, and 9 grams - one and a half eggs. It can be seen that in these areas they feed quite differently, and the two largest consumers of animal food (Tuoli and XIanghuang qi) are most important for comparison with almost vegan areas.

And other indicators - for reference.

And now - statistics on mortality (per 1000 people). I will not comment on them any more, just watch the graphics, they will say it all themselves. Remember that the five on the left are almost vegan (from Jiexiu to Songxian), and five on the right consume the most animal products (from Tuoli to Wenjiang).

As you can see, mortality is not very different, and in areas where more animal food is eaten, it is slightly better for some indicators (death from all types of cancer, myocardial infarction, brain diseases and neurological diseases, lymphoma, cervical cancer). Of course, this comparison is not a full-fledged scientific analysis (due to the small amount of data), but it clearly refutes Campbell's statement:

When eating large amounts of animal protein, many chronic diseases develop .... People who eat mostly plant food were the most healthy and avoided many chronic diseases.
