A team, led by Benjamin Zuckerman of the University of California has found signs of a collision between two planets in a planetary system of white dwarf NLTT 43806, located 30 light-years from Earth in the constellation Hercules. According to Benjamin Zuckerman, the discovery was made with a spectrograph HIRES, which is installed on the telescope Keck I. Sensitivity of spektograf HIRES made possible to detect in the spectrum of the star signs of the presence of large amounts of aluminum, with a relative small fraction of iron, which is atypical for the spectrum of white dwarfs. Therefore, it has been suggested, that such a large amount of aluminum could be recorded in the star as a result of penetrating into the wreckage of planets. It is likely, that for this anomalous spectrum of white dwarf NLTT 43 806 there is another explanation, however, to prove or disprove the hypothesis of Benjamin Zuckerman will only be using a more sensitive spectrographs.
