Scientists Martin Jutzi and Erik Asphaug from the University of Bern, Switzerland reported in the scientific journal Nature - it is possible that 4 billion years ago the Earth had two moons, but then came the collision of these moons, in which the Earth has only one natural satellite. These assumptions have the scientists on the basis of the fact, that visible and invisible side of the Moon are very different to their relief. Scientists suggest, that the second satellite of the Earth has a diameter of about 1,200 km and after a few tens of millions of years of co-rotation around the Earth, the huge second natural satellite crashed into the Moon, in a place, that is currently not visible from Earth, but the speed of the collision was not very large on a cosmic scale-up to 10,000 km per hour. Because of the relatively slow speed, much has changed only relief on the Moon after the collision, due to the fact, that the substance of the second natural satellite of Earth left on the surface of Moon in the form of mountains, that exist at the present time, a height of up to 1.9 kilometers. Major damage did not bring the Moon, although it has changed its orbit around the Earth. Scientists expect to hold a series experiment using space stations to confirm this hypothesis.
