Located 22 km / 14 miles north-east of Cairo, the famous Egyptian capital, Cairo International Airport (CAI) lies directly east of Al-Matariyah, Al-Zaytun, Heliopolis, Hilmiya and Matariya. Egypt's busy Cairo Airport annually serves more than 11 million passengers from all over the globe. The airport operates from three terminals, with Terminal 1 being situated around 3 km / 2 miles from Terminal 2 and the recently completed Terminal 3, and linked by a convenient shuttle. Recently expanded car parking facilities mean the Cairo Airport can now accommodate upwards of 7,000 vehicles, with both short-term and long-term options. Internationally recognised car hire companies including Avis, Budget and Hertz all have outlets situated within the Arrivals Hall. Salah Salem Road and the Autostrad Road both connect the airport with the cities of Heliopolis and Cairo. An airport bus departs from Terminal 1 and services Cairo, as well as several other local destinations, including Giza. Black and white taxis, located outside the Arrivals halls of both terminals, can transport passengers to destinations across Cairo. Most tourists travelling to Egypt choose to invest in travel insurance, with a good choice of cheap holiday insurance being readily available and protecting tourists against possible flight cancellations, accidents and baggage losses. The airport is located in Heliopolis, 22km (13.7 miles) northeast of central Cairo and 40km (24.9 miles) from the Giza Pyramids. Transfer Between Terminals A free Cairo Airport Authority shuttle bus links the two terminals, 3km (1.9 miles) apart more. The bus runs throughout the night and departs approximately every 30 minutes. Terminal 1 is known as the Old Airport, whilst Terminal 2 is known as the New Airport. The airport can be reached from Cairo city center, across the 6th October Bridge, via Salah Salem road, which leads to Heliopolis. The airport and Heliopolis are well signposted from the city center. Main Access Roads: Salah Salem-Orouba Street, an east west main arterial road. In the Greater Cairo, Urban Area, starting from Corniche El Nile and ending at Cairo Airport (23 km length). Secondary Access Roads: Autostrade-El Nasr Road, a main arterial road, almost parallel to Orouba street & Cairo International Airport (43 km) with various entrances & exits to other surrounding roads.
