According to the Secretary of Tourism of Honduras Nelly Jerez - only 18 kilometers of the city of Copan, a famous city, inhabited by the ancient Mayans, was opened a new archaeological park Rio Amarillo (see the map at the top of this article). Archaeological Park of Rio Amarillo (Yellow River) located on the square of about fifty acres, but directly to the ruins of the ancient Mayan city occupy only about seven acres. With the support of the Inter-American Bank, the archaeological park of Rio Amarillo were built roads and the objects of tourist infrastructure, and in 2012 the airport will be completed just 10 kilometers from the ancient city, so tourists at the end of 2012 will have easy access to the archaeological park Rio Amarillo, using the direct flight from the capital of Honduras.
