Season of litchi started on Hainan Island, China

In stores and markets of Hainan Island appeared a litchi. Litchi has a lot of other names, including lichee, Chinese plum, leechi, laichi, lichu, lizhi and others. litchi is the birthplace of China, where it has spread to all countries in South-East Asia as well as many countries in Africa and America. Harvesting litchi fruit is overgrown with branches. In ripe fruit surface is red color, in length, they reach up to 4.5 centimeters in diameter up to 3.5 centimeters and weights up to 20 grams. The litchi contains on average a total 72 mg of Vitamin C per 100 grams of fruit. On average nine litchi fruits would meet an adult’s daily recommended Vitamin C requirement. A cup of litchi fruit provides, among other minerals, for a 2000-Calorie diet, mainly from sugar, 14%DV of copper, 9%DV of phosphorus, and 6%DV of potassium. Like most plant-based foods, litchis are low in saturated fat and sodium and are cholesterol free. litchis are high in polyphenols, containing 15% more than grapes, a fruit commonly referenced as high in polyphenols. On the phenolic composition, flavan-3-ol monomers and dimers were the major found compounds representing about 87.0% of the phenolic compounds that declined with storage or browning. Cyanidin-3-glucoside was a major anthocyanin and represented 91.9% of anthocyanins. It also declined with storage or browning. Small amounts of malvidin-3-glucoside were also found.
