Greenpeace tried to steal samples of Chinese GM crops
Chinese authorities intend to strengthen the protection of research databases , which conducted the development of genetically modified crops .April 11 this year at one of the bases located in south China's Hainan Province, an incident occurred involving employees of international environmental NGO Greenpeace , who tried to steal samples of Chinese GM crops . They collected three packets of seeds and leaves on a research base of Huazhong Agricultural University .Ministry of Agriculture of the PRC issued a decree stating that the Chinese theft of GM technology and samples of seeds of genetically modified crops can cause irreparable damage to the country. Research organizations should strengthen supervision over the conduct of scientific experiments , the work of employees and transport samples of products , taking into account the threat.For its part, Greenpeace staff denied the charge of theft , saying that they decided to collect samples of GM crops , to conduct a scientific experiment . The purpose of this study - to find out whether the effect of providing GM crops on nearby fields . Environmentalists want to conduct an independent investigation of the legality of planting GM corn and cotton in the province of Hainan. They also tried to blame Huazhong University in non-compliance with safety standards , since the fields with GM crops are too close to conventional farmland.In turn, representatives of the University said that the experimental area with GM crops is fully consistent with national safety standards . At the base there is even a 2.7 - meter high wall that closes the experimental field of the nearby farmland.
