Today, the participants in the experiment of Mars-500 to simulate a flight to Mars, being 438 days in a confined space, simulating the space station, broke the record for the duration of one continuous space flight, which set by cosmonaut Valery Polyakov on the Russian orbital station Mir in 1994-1995 . The project Mars-500 – is a joint experiment of the Russian Federal Space Agency, Space Agency of the Russian Academy of Sciences and of the European Space Agency ESA. The project Mars-500 simulates a manned mission to Mars in which six Marsonavts will be in a closed complex on the Earth from 520 to 700 days. The main objective of the project Mars-500- is to study the effect of long-term presence in a confined space with limited resources, on the small group of people, on their physical and mental health. The experiment Mars-500 is as close to real manned flight to Mars, which implies a return to Earth. The project is implemented by the Institute of Biomedical Problems, Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow. However, Marsonavts can not get into the Guinness Book of Records as the new record holder for length of stay in space, and Valery Polyakov will be the astronaut, which stayed in space the longest time, because participants of the project Mars-500 broke the record of Valery Polyakov just in time of prolonged isolation, but without creating all the conditions of a real space station, especially in zero gravity, which for such a long period of time is impossible to simulate on Earth.
