How does the "collective wisdom" of the crowd - VIDEO PDF Print E-mail

Scientists from Pittsburgh created the original computer model that explains how the "collective wisdom" of the crowd and why in our society there are things like viral marketing and fleeting popular brendy- "ephemeral," according to an article published in the journal Science Advances . "Imagine a presidential praymariz - it involves a large number of candidates and electors, the whole crowd. The candidate-leader, for example, Donald Trump gets more media coverage and attention, which might make people think about how to vote for him solely because of the big names. But ultimately, increased media attention and people to his person can reveal his dark side, which downgraded Trump ", - said David Hagmann (David Hagmann) of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh (USA). Hagmann and his colleagues have found a mathematical explanation for such political phenomena and many other things related to collective decision-making, developed a mathematical model, the researchers whose principles borrowed from two representatives of the animal kingdom - the bees and bacteria. Both organisms as scientists explain, live in very large teams, and thus they are able to make fairly complex solutions using the signals that arrive to the small number of party members from the environment. A striking example of this is the bees choosing a new location for the hive, relying on the opinion of a small number of "spies" sent "collective intelligence" in search. Using the same principles, the group Hagman managed to create a computer algorithm, which is quite realistically reproduces how large groups of people make decisions. It works quite simply - it is a collection of a number of virtual people with access to a limited amount of information. Each of these "people" can decide to do one of several pre-defined actions, and his intention is immediately made known to others. They, in turn, may follow suit or to nominate an alternative. When one of these variants reaches a certain point in popularity, the whole crowd takes a collective decision, guided by the opinions of several "interest groups." The quality of this solution as the researchers found, will depend on the minimum monthly interest groups - the bigger it is, the more elaborate the action will be the crowd. What is interesting, is ambiguously perceived actions, even if they were very popular with the virtual part of the "crowd", rarely come forward in this vote. Scientists have attributed this to the fact that these "authors" of the strategy decision-making - the insects and bacteria - are not inclined to risk, as the hasty construction of a hive or colony unsuccessfully selected place usually ends with the death of the entire population. Something similar is said Hagman and his colleagues, there is at the center of decision-making in our brain, where hundreds and thoUSAnds of individual nerve cells trying to find the best way forward. "Our brain works in such a way that decisions are made only when a certain number of neurons becomes active at the center of decision making. Existing theories to explain the mechanics of this process, do not take into account the effect of positive feedback on it that should be corrected," - concludes another Goleman author Russel (Russel Golman).
