Giant rat mutants spread in Europe - VIDEO PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 14 April 2015 00:11

In the UK, the end of 2015 will dwell 2.5 times more rats than people. While we are not talking about ordinary animals: the country's catastrophic increase in the number of mutated giant rodents.

Experts estimate that two years ago, about 70% of the 10 million population of rats in the UK was resistant to all poisons. Since then, the situation has changed for the worse: at the beginning of 2015, there were already 80 million rats.

At the same time they are from generation to generation produce immunity to poisons. Taking into account the fertility of these rodents (during pregnancy have is 21 days, and some individuals are able to bring up to 400 young per year) the number of rats in Britain is growing alarmingly fast. Experts estimate that by the end of the year, the country will live for at least 160 million rats: it is 2.5 times greater than the number of inhabitants.

Not less of a problem is the genetic mutation. The exact number of representatives of a new species of rats is not known, but from all over the country, from the southern counties of England to the Scottish coast, people are more likely to report the appearance of giant rodents. If the body is normal rat reaches a maximum of 30 inches, the 60-centimeter mutants resemble the size of a cat. In addition, many of them have unusually thick fur, which allows them to survive the harshest winters.

However, effective ways to combat rodents no army. All tested to date poisons threat to rats did not present: they have developed immunity to them. This is based on an error at the state level: for many years, with the 50-ies of the last century, the formula has not changed poisons. And then played a role of other factors: on the background of the increasing number of inhabitants of Britain (and, consequently, increasing waste) was reduced budget allocated to the garbage. On top of that, several record mild winters have led to a dramatic surge in the birth rate in rats, which are born already genetically modified.

The only thing that invites experts to combat the dominance of rodents - is the use of more powerful poisons are not currently approved by the EU. But it is fraught with serious consequences: the use of more toxic drugs can cause the death of other animals and birds. In addition, any contact ate a rat bait food can cause serious harm to human health.

Meanwhile, giant rats cease to be a problem only one UK mutant rodents have seen in Dublin (Ireland) and Stockholm (Sweden).
