Huge power plant in orbit will create China - VIDEO PDF Print E-mail

China, like Japan, is about to launch into space solar power larger than the ISS. Station will be located at an altitude of 36,000 kilometers above the Earth's surface. Chinese scientists believe that this will solve the energy crisis on our planet.

Experimental space solar power plant will be built and placed in Earth orbit by 2030, and ready for commercial operation - 2050, writes IBTimes. For the construction of the orbital power delivered 93-year-old academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a member of the International Academy of Astronautics Van Sitszi, dedicated study space technology for more than 50 years of his life.

The economic viability of space power will truly gigantic proportions, the total area of solar panels will be 5.6 million square kilometers - said Sitszi.

According to experts, this station will be able to collect solar energy 99 percent of the time. Space solar panels will generate ten times more electricity than similar land-based panel per unit area.

The generated electricity will be transformed into a microwave or laser beam for transmission to the collector, located on Earth. The project will be economically advantageous as the power transmission efficiency exceeds 50 percent.

The idea of building space power was first described in the sci-fi short story by Isaac Asimov "Logic» (Reason) in 1941.

Says Sitszi who developed the first Chinese carrier rocket more than 40 years ago, one of the main obstacles in the implementation of this large-scale project is the need for an inexpensive but heavy launch vehicle, as well as the creation of a very thin and light solar panels.

China has also expressed a desire to develop a new generation of carrier rockets heavy class.

It is expected that the orbital space power will help reduce air pollution emissions from numerous stations operating on fossil fuels. Today, China is the world's largest energy consumer. In addition, the country ranks first in terms of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.
