Sunday, 29 March 2015 12:00

Two students from George Mason University have come up with a small device that can extinguish the fire using sound waves of low frequency. Initially, the inventors planned to use high frequency sound to localize fires, but during the experiments, they concluded that these goals are better suited wave frequency from 30 Hz to 60 Hz. The device weighs about 9 kg, reports Daily Mail.

The idea to create a portable acoustic "fire extinguisher" students come to mind after watching the movie DARPA, in which giant installations generate sound, put out the fire. The device is powered by a battery that can be worn on the back.

According to the creators of the device, the new approach will extinguish fires without the use of water and chemicals that could cause additional damage to the contents of the buildings.

In order to make a prototype, the students spent about $ 600. As the developers themselves admit, there is still a lot of work, as long as the device has been tested only in small areas, thus acted as fuel alcohol.
