Scientists have created and perfected polyvinylidene material with unique piezoelectric properties. This writes Chemistry for life.

Polyvinylidene - versatile polymer which is used in many industries, including chemical, food, pharmaceutical and nuclear. Scientists have found that if the material produced in special circumstances, it becomes a piezoelectric - the ability to generate electricity during deformation.

Researchers have improved the structure of polyvinylidene. They integrate into the organic carbon molecules and nanostructures.

As a result, scientists were able to obtain a material which has become the best piezoelectric world: it generates electricity during deformation and shrinks under the influence of electric discharge.

Researchers believe that in the future the resulting material can be used to create artificial muscles.
