Prototype of electronic skin will allow people to perceive magnetic fields to the touch - VIDEO PDF Print E-mail

German and Japanese scientists have presented a flexible nanosensors for human skin, which allows people to find "sixth sense" to perceive and feel magnetic waves.

Magnetoreception (the ability to directly sense the magnetic field) helps bacteria, insects and even some animals (birds and sharks) to use these natural phenomena for orientation and movement in space. To give such a person's ability, scientists from the Dresden Institute for Research in the field of solid state physics and materials science Leibniz along with their Japanese colleagues developed an electronic skin that reacts to static and dynamic magnetic fields.

New magnetoresistive sensors in a thickness of no more than two microns, and weigh only three grams (per square meter of skin): They do not even pierce the bubble. devices are also characterized by flexibility (bending radius - less than three microns). Their performance will not be affected even if the crush them like a piece of paper.

"We have demonstrated the sensors suitable for soft robots and medical implants, as well as giving the magnetic functionality worn on the skin of electronics. Highly flexible magnetic sensors are unobtrusive tool for orientation in space "- the scientists say.
