Spacecraft Jupiter Icy Moon Explorer (JUICE) will reach Jupiter in 2030 and will search for extraterrestrial life - VIDEO PDF Print E-mail

Astronomers believe that Jupiter and its Moons - one of the best places in our solar system to search for traces of extraterrestrial life. For this reason, in 2022 launched the mission JUICE Oceanic liquid water in the Jupiter system.

Spacecraft Jupiter Icy Moon Explorer (JUICE) weighing 5 tons will reach Jupiter in 2030. The station is a set of tools for studying the atmosphere, magnetosphere and the rings of the gas giant, writes Daily Mail.

JUICE will also explore the Moon, discovered by Galileo in 1610 - volcanic Io, icy Europe, as well as stone-ice Callisto and Ganymede. The last object will get the most attention. For the first time the spacecraft will orbit around Ganymede.

Recently, scientists have said that Ganymede has a sandwich structure, ie between several layers of ice are several oceans of liquid water. Previously it was thought that the Moon has only one ocean and two ice layer.

According to the researchers, the place of contact between water and rocks play an important role in the development of life. According to one theory, life on Earth may have originated in the ocean. Up to a new study suggests that the rocky seabed Ganymede is covered with ice, rather than liquid.

During his travels he met with JUICE Callisto - the most densely dotted with craters object in the solar system - and twice circled Europe. The unit will hold the first measurements of ice thickness in Europe and determine the most suitable sites for future exploration missions.

Scientists believe that the movement of material between the ocean and the ice crust can provide simple forms of life energy. The researchers considered the possibility of finding extraterrestrial life in geysers on Europe. In December 2013 a space telescope "Hubble" observed on the surface of the satellite fountains of water vapor.

Jupiter - a typical example of a giant planet in the solar system, as well as the giant planets around other stars. Juice deepen our knowledge of the gas giants and their worlds for others - said the European Space Agency (ESA).

In November of this year has been achieved multilateral agreement between ESA and other stakeholders in the project, which has translated JUICE mission to a new stage of development.
