As reported in the Astrophysical Journal Letters, a team of scientists, which led by Alexander Lockwood from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena and Geoffrey Blake of the California Institute of Technology, for the first time able to see the water vapor in the upper atmosphere of the giant extrasolar planets in binary star Tau Bootis, using new methods of observation, which is based on fluctuations in the spectrum of the star during its interaction with the planets.
