Natalie Arzamastseva, representative of Medtronic, Inc. reported, that at November, 21, 2012 Medtronic announced the first use in Russia of the Medtronic 3f Enable® Aortic Bioprosthesis, the world’s first commercially available sutureless tissue heart valve.

The self-expanding, sutureless valve can be implanted using a minimally invasive surgical technique to replace a diseased, damaged or malfunctioning native or prosthetic aortic valve in patients with aortic valve stenosis or insufficiency, conditions that affect more than 11.6 million people worldwide. First bioprosthesis 3f Enable® were implanted at the Research Center of Cardiovascular Surgery by Bakulev of Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and at Russian Cardiological R&D complex of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation.

The Medtronic 3f Enable Aortic Bioprosthesis facilitates implantation through an incision that is smaller than those commonly used for traditional surgical valve replacements, and without conventional sutures. The self-expanding Nitinol™ frame allows the 3f Enable valve to be folded into a small diameter to facilitate placement through a minimally invasive incision.

The valve is fixated in the annulus and can be repositioned as needed. Medtronic 3f Enable received CE (Conformité Européenne) Mark in December 2009. “Medtronic is pleased to bring our 3f Enable Aortic Bioprosthesis to cardiac surgeons and their patients in Russia,” said Tom Vassiliades, M.D., vice president of medical affairs for the Structural Heart business unit.

“The 3f Enable tissue heart valve provides a new and simplified way to replace diseased, damaged or malfunctioning aortic valves, and in a way that is less invasive for patients.” “By improving medical technologies of cardio-vascular diseases treatment Medtronic takes care of patients’ health and make its input in modernization of the healthcare system in Russia. With this new bioprosthesis of aortic valve 3f Enable operations of aortic valve replacement will become safer for patients and easier for surgeons”, says Elena PlyaSunova, General Manager of Medtronic in Russia.
