According to Nature Communications, a team of scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Rice University, under the direction of Jae-Hwang Lee and Ned Thomas, created a new nanomaterial with a thickness of a sheet of paper, that can withstand of the impact of flying bullets. As reported, the new polymer composite nanomaterial is a plexus of rigid and flexible layers in a special fiber. In experiments to test of the strength of nanomaterials, scientists fired it by a glass beads with a diameter of millionths of a meter and nanomaterial stood under the influence of a strike force of improvised bullets. Scientists from the Institute of Technology and Rice University supports by research center of the U.S. Army, which sponsored the development of lightweight body armor, but the U.S. military was more interested in the idea of creating an artificial skin based on spider webs, which has been tested under the influence of real bullets, THE VIDEO:
