The well-known scientific magazine Nature reported, that a group of chemists from Harvard University, USA under Zhigang Suo for the first time created a super-flexible hydrogel, which can stretch up to 20 times without losing their mechanical properties and resistance to external mechanical influences. As reported, the new structure of the hydrogel consists of a combination of two polymers with opposite properties. Hydrogel, created at Harvard University, has acquired new and unusual properties due to the fact, that its structure can hold water inside with the replacement of one of the polymer nets this double hydrogel mesh of alginate, which is extracted from the cells of brown algae and is long chain hydrocarbons. Alginate and gave new hydrogel ability to recover its shape after repeated stretching, while the mesh of conventional polymers when stretched often deformed. The new super-flexible hydrogel with unusual properties can be will be used in new areas of science and technology- from medicine to the military industry.
