Mercury reactor in the atmosphere poisoning of the Earth's oceans and soil PDF Print E-mail

Climatologists Seth Lyman and Daniel Jaffe from the University of Washington, USA found that the Earth's stratosphere acts as a giant "mercurial rector." In this reactor, oxidized of stratospheric mercury vapors, that enter in the Earth's atmosphere as a result of human activity. According to scientists, the synthesis of mercury oxide in the stratosphere may have adverse effects on the biosphere of the Earth, as mercuric oxide lighter than mercury, dissolved in water and easily falls into the water and food, poisoning them. Scientists have carried out measurements with a detector of mercury compounds, mounted on a special high-altitude aircraft, designed for climate studies. As the scientists reported, mercury vapor is oxidized in the Earth's stratosphere and are carried further downstream air masses into the troposphere, where the oxide of mercury falls with rain and water in the soil surface. Scientists argue, that the study of air flows, downward from the stratosphere to the troposphere, is always increased sharply the concentration of oxides of mercury, which indicates, that the stratosphere as the main source of mercury oxide in the atmosphere.
