On the comet Hartley 2 was found water PDF Print E-mail

A group of scientists, led by Paul Hartogh from Research Institute of the solar system of the Max Planck Society, Germany, based on analysis of data space telescope, "Herschel", put forward a new hypothesis about the origin of water on Earth. In their view, much of the water on Earth came along with comets, because the isotopic composition of water in comets is very similar to the isotopic composition of water on Earth, in both cases - the same ratio of isotopes of ordinary hydrogen and deuterium (a heavy isotope of hydrogen). The discovery was made on the basis of analysis of the spectral emission lines of comet Hartley 2 (103P/Hartley 2), which was opened in 1986 Malcolm Hartley (Malcolm Hartley). If this hypothesis will be confirmed, this force of scientists to take a fresh look at the frequency of collision with our planet by comets - the average interval between collisions with the Earth by comets can be much smaller, than previously thought.
