Canterbury Cathedral is the main Anglican Church of UK and is the most famous Gothic cathedral. Official name of Canterbury Cathedral is Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Christ at Canterbury. The Canterbury Cathedral was founded in 603 by Augustine of Canterbury and was dedicated to the Holy Saviour, but after the Norman Conquest was rebuilt by Archbishop Lanfranco. After a fire in 1174, to the Canterbury Cathedral was added the Trinity Chapel as a shrine for the relics of St. Thomas the Martyr, so the Canterbury Cathedral became a shrine of the martyr and a place to attract of thoUSAnds of pilgrims. Canterbury Cathedral has acquired a modern look of the Gothic cathedral in the 15th century, and in 1830 the cathedral was built of new facilities, are styled in the spirit of "perpendicular" Gothic. Canterbury Cathedral with the Abbey of St. Augustine and the Church of St. Martin were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
