Famous Wimbledon Stadium is located in the same suburb of south-east London. In Wimbledon will host the tennis competitions during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. The name Wimbledon is derived from the Old English Wynnmandon-«Winman's Hill". Currently the Stadium Wimbledon is known worldwide as the venue of the famous Wimbledon tennis tournament, which is the oldest of all Grand Slam's tournaments and is the most prestigious. The first tennis championship at Wimbledon was held in 1877. At the present time the Wimbledon tennis complex consists of 19 grass courts, with two tennis courts- the Centre Court and Court №1 are used for only two weeks in a year, during the Wimbledon tennis tournament, the number of seats for spectators is 15,000. On the south side of the Central court is located the lodge for 75 places for members of the royal family and for other VIP-persons, in 2009 was built the sliding roof above Centre Court, which allows held all games of Wimbledon tennis tournament in any weather. On the territory of the Wimbledon tennis complex is located the Tennis Museum, where you can watch lots of pictures and relics, relating to the tennis tournament, which were held at this place. Note, that the Museum of Tennis Wimbledon open doors from 10:00 to 17:00.
