According to the information contained in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, biologists from the United States has proposed a new technique for encrypting messages with the help of bacteria. As reported, coding of messages is done by several strains of Escherichia coli, each of which produces a special, distinct from other strains, luminous pigment. Number of E. coli Escherichia coli was chosen so that a pair of E. coli could encode 49 characters - any character from the English alphabet, numbers and special characters. Although the article did not report the exact number of strains needed for the character encoding, but the formulas of combinatorics known to encode 45 characters with a couple of strains of Escherichia coli requires only 10 different strains and to encode 55 characters with a couple of strains of Escherichia coli requires only 11 different strains, so it is obvious that the researchers used 11 strains of Escherichia coli.
