Material shows the force of impact on it - VIDEO PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 21 August 2015 16:37
A group of researchers from the University of Pennsylvania has developed a polymer material that changes color depending on the force of impact on it. The new material was created using holographic lithography crystals of predetermined shape, which is attached to the polymer film and the original color. If the strike on the material surface, the crystals are deformed or destroyed, it will affect the apparent color of the film. After a series of experiments, the researchers were convinced that they can adjust the color reproduction of the material, depending on the force of impact. According to the creators, such material can be widely used. For example, it can be used in the manufacture of sports helmets and army helmets, which will change color when damaged, allowing doctors to accurately assess the severity of head injuries soldier or athlete. Scientists plan to tell you more about his research and new material during the 250th national meeting of the American Chemical Society, which takes place in Boston from 16 to 20 August.
