The manufacturer of the floating power plant expects that the system will start producing after about 3300 MWh per year. This amount is enough to provide electricity to about 920 typical Japanese households.

Meanwhile, in March next year the same company is planning to launch another floating solar power plant, which will be located in the sea east of Tokyo. Its power, according to the manufacturer, enough for about 5,000 households.

Such floating power plants, according to experts, have a number of advantages over traditional terrestrial solar power. They are more efficient due to the natural cooling water generators, on which these systems are located. Furthermore, the placement station on water reduces the amount of evaporation of water in the process of producing electricity, which is essentially water saving.

Some experts evince concerns about how such floating structures able to withstand natural disasters. However, according to "Neyshnl Geographic" studies in the French Aerospace Laboratory, showed that floating power plants are able to withstand hurricane winds up to 200 km / h. Furthermore, these systems were found to earthquake-proof. Their only drawback at the moment is more expensive installation and maintenance compared to conventional solar systems.

It should be noted that Japan is not the only country that is actively investing in the creation of such floating "Solar Islands". Similar projects are being planned or are already being implemented in Australia, Brazil, the UK, India, and the American Sonoma County, California.
