Asteroid Juno will be visible in the night sky with binoculars - VIDEO PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 04 February 2015 08:53

This week, the third asteroid discoveries of mankind will be in a favorable position to observe from Earth. This asteroid is named after Juno, was opened in 1804 by the German astronomer Carl Harding.

Juno is a small by astronomical standards, a celestial body with a diameter of about 274 kilometers, but the usual earthly man in the street scale this size is quite significant and is approximately equal to the distance from New York to Boston.

The asteroid is far enough away from the Earth, to be precise, at the distance of 200 million kilometers. Juno brightness in the night sky estimated value of the visible magnitude 7.8. The scale of apparent magnitudes used by astronomers to assess the brightness of the space object in the night sky. The value of apparent magnitude of 7.8 means that the object can not see with the naked eye, therefore, required to observe it through binoculars.

Fortunately, next to the asteroid Juno in the night sky is more bright objects to accurately determine its position. The asteroid is currently in the middle of the segment connecting the sky bright Jupiter, which is in the constellation Leo, with no less bright star Procyon, in the constellation Canis Minor. Very close to Juno is also the head of the constellation Hydra.

It should be noted that the asteroid Juno moves with enough high speed, and watching him through a telescope for a few minutes, you will notice its movement against the background of fixed stars.
