Water turns to jelly in Canadian lakes - VIDEO PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 17 December 2014 11:29

Many Canadian lakes, which are the source of 20% of drinking water in the country, now looks like a bowl full of jelly. Scientists have found the cause of the University of Cambridge.

Their study showed that the cause of the metamorphosis are acid rain. Such deposits cause a reduction in the calcium content in the soil around the lake, which in turn leads to destruction of plankton such as Daphnia, and reproduce them as "competitors» - Holopedium.

Thus, they lead to an explosive increase in the population of gelatinous plankton of a certain type, which threatens to clog the filtration system of drinking water.
