New airliners through the space of 4 hours will be able to deliver passengers anywhere in the world - VIDEO PDF Print E-mail

The British are developing a missile capable of 4 hours to deliver its passengers anywhere in the world, and go to the open space of 15 minutes. Techno-economic analysis by the European Space Agency (ESA), has shown that a new type of engine meets the requirements of the program to reduce the cost of space launches undertaken Europe.

Engine Sabre (Synergetic Air-Breathing Rocket Engine), which uses the revolutionary technology of pre-cooling, developed aerospace company Reaction Engines. According to the ESA, if equipped with a new missile reUSAble upper stage, it will meet all European requirements for the launch. In this case, this option is much cheaper.

According to the newspaper Daily Mail, the new engine will be the basis of a unique spacecraft Skylon, which will provide affordable and reliable access to space. The video below chief engineer Alan Bond explains that the air entering the propulsion system Sabre, can be cooled to a temperature of 1000 degrees Celsius for 0.01 seconds. This allows the engine to operate on the reactive power that is not able to give any other engine.

As is known, the greater the power, the greater the velocity. According to Bond, the new missile capable of speeds greater than the speed of sound five times. The cooling system uses an array of fine twisted tubes filled with condensed helium. This design allows the cool air to -150 degrees Celsius before it enters the engine. Under normal conditions, this may cause condensation in the air, followed by icing the engine. The company, however, has found a way to avoid it.

Reaction Engines hopes to use its technology to build aircraft with 300 seats, has the ability to launch vehicle.

This technology will forever change the aircraft. We have no competitors. We are unique - says Bond.

Skylon has a length of about 85 meters. The ability to take off and land horizontally (like an airplane) simplifies reuse compared with standard missiles. In addition to the high cost ($ 1.1 billion), this aircraft has another flaw that may not like tourists - at Skylon are no windows. To solve this problem is proposed installation of panoramic screens that allow passengers to see what's happening behind.

Skylon can compete suborbital spaceship SpaceShipTwo company Virgin Galactic. It is expected that the Skylon offer the same flight, but at a lower price.

Estimated Reaction Engines, Skylon will reduce the cost of space launches by 95 percent. Sabre has already gone through 100 successful test runs. Skylon test flights will begin in 2019.

In the future, the company plans to build Reaction Engines spacecraft for interplanetary travel.
