NASA Space Center at Cape Canaveral destroys by global warming - VIDEO PDF Print E-mail

NASA Space Center at Cape Canaveral has already experienced the consequences of global climate change: broken dunes that protect the launch pads, the waves rocking the fences and regularly pour driveways. This is the conclusion reached by scientists track the status of Baikonur in 2009.

The project was initiated by NASA demanded that geologists from the University of Florida to find out what's going on ten-beach area between the launch pads 39A and 39B (where run "Shuttle" and "Apollo").

Scientists have discovered that the braid blurs due to sea level rise and rise of energy waves - these processes are linked to global warming. In addition, the Cape has been hit by a string of hurricanes that hit Florida in the last ten years.
According to the researchers, the problem has long been neglected, and eventually Cape Canaveral can be compared to New Orleans the day before the hurricane "Katrina". Infrastructure NASA has already threatened that if urgent action is taken, the water can fill and road running parallel to the railroad tracks, and under it held power lines and pipes that pumped liquid gas.

NASA has already pitched artificial dunes to replace blurred. However, if the sea level rise will continue at the same pace, the agency intends to implement the strategy of "managed retreat": move the access roads, utilities, buildings, and even launch complexes. "When the fixed infrastructure is located in such a dynamic environment, someone has to give in," - said one of the study's authors.
