They did this by adding a very thin layer of plastic around the crystals and wrapping it in a metal sheath. Then, the layers were glued together with a special gel . As nanowhiskers surrounded by an insulating layer, the inner copper wire retains its ability to transmit electricity , same layers around it can store electricity. In other words, Thomas and his colleagues created the super on the outside of the copper wire.
