Astronomers from the National University of Australia, led by Stefan Keller, use the telescope of SkyMapper, found the oldest star in the Universe, whose age is about 13.6 billion years. Scientists estimate, that the oldest star in the Universe formed already after only a few million years after the Big Bang, and it is located about 6000 light years off Earth. Age of the star was determined by the mass content of metal lines in its spectrum, for very old stars metallicity index value is between -2 and -1, while the oldest star in the Universe index metallicity is -7, VIDEO:
