According to "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences", the brightest berry in the world is Pollia condensata, but the color of this berry is not determined by a coloring pigment, but by interference of light in specialized cellular structures in the surface tissues of the berry, thanks to this Pollia condensata decades can maintain its unusually bright color of "metallic blue." It is reported, that the cellulose fibers in the surface tissues of the berry are located not uniformly and strictly at a certain angle, which leads to the fact, that only reflected of light in blue part of the spectrum. Such a mechanism of color previously often found in different animals: the color of the light interference determines of the color of wings of butterflies, bugs and feathers, but only among plants only the Pollia condensata use such similar mechanism of coloring. The researchers hope, that it will be possible to create technology of painting for fabrics and materials, which will be based on the method of coloration of Pollia condensata.
