Wi-Fi helps to see through walls PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 05 August 2012 16:19

Two British scientists, Karl Woodbridge and Kevin Chetty from University College London have invented a device, that can see through walls with a conventional Wi-Fi. The principle of operation of the device is to analyze the wireless network Wi-Fi, when the Wi-Fi radio waves reflected from a moving object, changing the frequency and wavelength, so if a person close to the transmitter, Wi-Fi, then the frequency of reflected radio waves increases, and at a distance from the source Wi-Fi - radio frequency decreases, so with two antennas, one of which registers a signal source Wi-Fi, and a second antenna detects the reflected radio Wi-Fi, this device calculates not only the location of the object but also its speed and direction of movement based on the Doppler effect. Karl Woodbridge and Kevin Chetty testing this device, built on a mobile phone, managed to find a brick wall as thick as 30 centimeters of moving the exact number of people. In practice, this device can be used both for civilian purposes and for military purposes.
