Researchers from National Research Centre for Ice and Snow at the University of Colorado, the U.S. reported a record rate of ice melting in the Arctic. Scientists estimate that the area of plots, at least 15% covered with ice in 2011 decreased by 2.43 million square kilometers, and has been below average, from 1979 to 2000. According to Joey Comiso from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, we can say about sustainable trend, indicating that since 1979, is the shrinking of ice in the Arctic by an average of 12% over 10 years. If the trend is reduced, the Arctic could lose ice by 2100. But some scientists argue, that it is possible say about an increasing tendency to melt and the Arctic could lose the ice after forty years.
