ESO director general Tim de Zeeuw announced, that the radio telescope ALMA, built on a platform in Chile European Southern Observatory (ESO), officially started its work, despite the fact that not all of its antennas are installed. Radio telescope ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter / submillimeter Array) will operate in the millimeter and submillimeter range, in 2013 completed the installation of his 66 separate antennas on a high plateau Chahnantor in Chile. The data from all antennas will be handled by special supercomputer, which forms the final image from cosmic objects. Although currently used only a third of connected antennas, but it now allows for remote monitoring of space objects, were the first made observations of galaxies NGC4038 and NGC4039, which enabled astronomers to obtain new data of traces of collision.
