Becan is an archeological complex of the Mayan civilization, located in the central part of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico in the state of Campeche, 159 km of north of Tikal city. Translated from the Yucatec language the "Becan" means "water-gang formed by water", as the Becan surrounds by the artificial water-gang. As archaeologists suggest, first buildings in Becan were appeared in 550 BC, and several centuries later the Becan has become a major regional center of the Mayan civilization, in this time around the city was built a deep ditch, which has been preserved to this day. In the Becan archeological complex were found many artifacts of the Mayan civilization: weapons, household items, jewelry. According to scientists, from 830 AD, the city's population began to decline, and in 1200 AD, the city was finally abandoned.
