Coba archeological zone (Zona Arqueologica de Coba) is the ruins of the ancient Mayan city, located 167 kilometers of Cancun, 90 kilometers of the archaeological complex of Chichen Itza and 40 kilometers of Tulum- the another ancient Mayan cityю. It is assumed, that the Mayan city of Coba was built almost 1500 years ago, but for unknown reasons, all the inhabitants fled the city of Coba, after the Spanish arrived. Coba archeological zone is divided into five major groups, among them the most famous is Nohoch Mul, in whose territory is located the pyramid El Castillo (The Castle) with a staircase of 120 steps. At the top of the pyramid El Castillo, at a height of 42 meters is located a ritual room with an altar.
