Statistics of obesity in Russia

The Institute of Nutrition of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences has published the latest statistics on obesity in Russia. It turns out that every fourth Russian (26%) suffers from this disease!

Viktor Tutelyan (chief nutrition specialist of the Ministry of Health, head of the NII nutrition), said that approximately 50% of men and 60% of women over 30 years of age have an overweight (that is, a body mass index (BMI) of more than 25 kg / m2), and approximately 26% are obese (ie have a BMI of more than 30 kg / m2).

It is important to note that the number of people with excess body weight is constantly growing. So, if in 2005 obesity was 23% of Russians, then in 2012 - already 25.3%.

Statistics of obesity in Russia from the Institute of Nutrition of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences issued information that the "thickest" regions: the Altai Territory (27% of residents with obesity), Krasnodar Territory (27%), Nizhny Novgorod Region (28%), Moscow Region (30%) and ( Suddenly J) - Kaluga region (33%).

The most "slender" regions are Kabardino-Balkaria (19% of residents with obesity), Primorsky Krai (18%), Krasnoyarsk Territory (17%), Orenburg Region (17%), Udmurtia (12%).

According to this representative sample (according to Victor Tutelyan, it covered about 20 thousand families from all regions of Russia), women with obesity are approximately 8-15% more than men.

Also, the chief nutritionist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation noted the danger of this epidemic of obesity, saying, in particular, that this disease is responsible for 56% of premature deaths from noncommunicable diseases.

The reason for the increase in the percentage of people with obesity is quite understandable - ever less physical activity, coupled with an increased caloric intake. But the regional differences mentioned above can be connected with the demographic structure, the socio-economic situation in the regions, the established traditions of lifestyle and nutrition, and (but it's quite a dark matter J) - the peculiarities of the genotypes of local residents ...

Interestingly, the map of the prevalence of obesity in Russia quite accurately coincides with the map of "fat intake in the diet." Thus, in regions with the highest prevalence of overweight, fats were up to 38% of the total calorie content of the daily diet.

Alexander Baturin (Head of the Laboratory of Epidemiology of Nutrition) noted that we consume fat mainly from dairy, meat products and confectionery. Well, he did not discover America here. Much more interesting statistics on the consumption of certain types of food. So, it turns out, butter we eat twice as much as the average Europeans or Americans (4 vs. 2 kg).

A special conversation deserved and sausage. Note that if meat contains about 12% fat and 20% protein, then sausage already has more than 30% fat and less than 15% protein!

According to Rosstat (about two years ago), Russians consume "harmful" foods since (as it is horrible) infancy - almost half of the children (according to polls) eat sausages / sausages every day, more than half of children - sweets (candies / cakes), each The fifth child drinks sweet soda almost every day, every tenth - once a month "refueled" fast food, and 2.5% of children generally eat fast food several times a week!

Such a deplorable statistics of obesity in Russia led to the fact that the authorities began to come up with ways to combat the excessive body weight of citizens. Sometimes, quite exotic ways.

Maybe you heard that in the United Arab Emirates an experiment was under way, when every citizen of the UAE was paid - for each weight dropped, 1 gram of gold was given.
