Yesterday in Hainan , as well as in all of China, started to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is one of the most important holidays in China. Mid-Autumn Festival begins at the 15 th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar, and in 2010 it celebrated on September 22. The history of Mid-Autumn Festival dates back to the ancient rites of sacrifice: in the spring rulers bowed to the spirit of the Sun, and autumn sacrifices to the Moon. Also,there is a legend, that in the 14 century with the help of the Moon cakes, raised a rebellion against the Mongol Yuan Dynasty. Then they baked a large numbers of Moon cakes and asked for permission to distribute these Moon cakes among the Chinese on  the Mid-Autumn Festival. Each Moon cake have a note with a call to revolt against the Mongols the 15 th of the 8 th month. The uprising helped to overthrow the Yuan dynasty and the coming to power of the Chinese Ming dynasty.

During the Mid-Autumn Festival in the cities of Hainan is usually host to numerous events, filled with local color .
Mid-Autumn Festival is also called the Harvest festival, since by the time it coincides with the end of harvesting. This holiday is also called the occasion of the goddess of the Moon. Ancient peoples who lived on the island of Hainan, especially revered by the Moon .

In Mid-Autumn Festival eat, so-called "Moon cakes" with various fillings. This tradition originated during the Tang Dynasty.
Currently, people do not prepare Moon cakes in house. During the Mid-Autumn Festival,  they buy Moon cakes and give his family and friends as holiday greetings . Moon cakes, depending of the filling  and packaging, sold in stores of  Hainan in varying costs - from several RMB to several hundred RMB. Moon cakes these days are the main attributes of a hike to the guests visiting the various receptions, meetings and other social events .

Despite the fact, that many current residents of Hainan do not follow the Moon calendar and do not follow all prescribed to them the traditions and holidays, Mid-Autumn Festival celebrate by all, also because it gives the people of Hainan, three days off. In this regard, as early as Tuesday working day, the majority of employees of Hainan was completed immediately after lunch, and the children went to the three days of vacation . However, residents of Hainan does not add the weekend - for the non-working holiday on Wednesday , Thursday and Friday they have worked over the coming weekend and have worked hard on Sunday .
